Wingspan looks like a peaceful nature game and plays like a relentless engine-builder. Each turn you draft food, lay eggs, or play a bird into one of three habitats; each bird has a "when played" or "when activated" ability that compounds with the rest of your tableau.
The four-round structure rewards front-loaded engine construction. Birds played in round one trigger up to four times by game end; birds played in round four trigger once. Most experienced players build aggressively in the early rounds and cash in via eggs and bonus cards later.
A solo mode you'd actually play and a beautifully produced box. The 2022 Oceania expansion is widely considered must-have for repeat play.
